Programs for All Ages
Lego Club
The Lego Club meets every Thursday (with an exception here and there) of every month from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. We have a theme every month and creations based on the theme can be added to all month and kept together in the library. If you build something that isn't part of the theme it has to be taken apart at the end of the day. Happy building everyone!
Read Down Your Fines
If you are under eighteen (18) and have fines on your card for overdues, you can come into the library, sit in any of our chairs and read to have those fines forgiven. Books, magazines, and newspapers are acceptable reading materials. A slip must be picked up at the desk and signed by a librarian. The librarian must see you at all times while you are reading. When you are finished, bring your slip back to the librarian and they will forgive your fines for the time you have read. Only fines for overdues will be forgiven. Fees for lost items will have to be paid. For every 15 minutes that you read, $1.00 will be forgiven. It will be up to the librarian to see if you have met these standards.
Film Fridays
Movie Licensing USA has brought together 17 of the major Hollywood studios together to help libraries all over the country. We can legally show any movie that those companies release on DVD and do so regularly throughout the year. We have a digital projector with a 100" projector screen to try and recreate the movie theater experience. Please check the website every month to see which movie we will be showing.
Summer Reading Program
Through June and July, we have a Summer Reading Program for Children and Adult participants. Everyone keeps track of their reading in booklets and when certain levels have been met, a small prize and 4 tickets for bigger prizes are awarded. The bigger prizes have an empty box with a picture of the prize next to it. Participants are encouraged to put as many of their tickets in as many prize boxes that they are interested in winning. The drawing for the prizes will be held after the reading period ends. We also have several performers and activities scheduled that we hope will bring fun and entertainment to our community. Programs for Adults
Book Club
The Rio Library Book Group meets the third Wednesday of each month at the library from 1:30-2:30 pm. New members are welcome to join. Stop at the circulation desk to pick up the current book. Books are selected based on input from club members, and on availability through the South Central Library System. Members are not required to purchase books. Following the discussion for the book of the month, members share information on what other books they have read recently. This is an excellent way to hear about authors and short reivews of books. This is an informal group. All readers are welcome.
Book and a Movie
Movie Licensing USA has brought together 17 of the major Hollywood studios together to help libraries all over the country. We can legally show any movie that those companies release on DVD and do so regularly throughout the year. We have a digital projector with a 100" projector screen to try and recreate the movie theater experience. For our adult movies, we also try and show a movie that was based on a book so we can read the book before hand and then watch the movie to see what was different. As of now, these movies are matinees and will be shown at 1:00 p.m. on the day of the show. Please check the website to see which movie we will be showing.
